Birtamod
Since my last update my team and I have traveled to both the Far Eastern
border of Nepal to an area called Birtamod (pronounced bit-a-more) and the West
to a place called Pokhara (pronounced poke-a-ra). In both places we had the privilege
and honor to work with some YWAM bases and partner with the different ministries
they have. In Birtamod we got to hang out with some students currently involved
in a Discipleship training school (DTS). This week was more of a time for us to
relax, enjoy the heat and help out on the base in any way possible (e.g.
cooking, cleaning…). For a couple mornings we lead worship and prayer times and
got to share what God has been doing in our lives recently. In this area there
is a very small population of Christians with the majority being Hindu.
We were able to witness to some of the neighbors who invited us over for
tea and on one occasion for dinner (which was a treat from the normal food we
had to eat every day twice a day). One family had many questions about God and
life in the West, the son thought Obama was the best president yet, but not to
worry I corrected him on this very large mistake ;) One day we had an open air
evangelism type thing where we did a skit and then afterward I preached the
gospel. I will be honest here, I did not really prepare what I was going to say
because this is not the first time I have done this, I shot a quick prayer
before I spoke and then when I opened my mouth it was like the Holy Spirit was
speaking through me, I am not sure how to describe it but it was amazing and
something every Christian should experience! After we were invited to a Hindu
wedding to basically eat the food and wish the bride and groom good luck, it
was pretty fun and we got some good stories out of it, such as handing out
gospel tracks the whole way to the wedding.
I think the best part for me was
learning how to accept blessing from God. I often feel guilty for having so
much and then getting more stuff given to me on top of that. God has been
teaching me that I should not feel guilty for where he has allowed me to be
born or for receiving so much blessings but rather to enjoy it while I can and
out of these blessings to bless others. Just think when you receive with a grateful
heart how much more joyful will your giving be?
