January Update

Dear friends and family,
I have finally made it to Kathmandu, Nepal! I am so excited to be here after months of preparation. I have just finished up a two week orientation on the country’s culture, beliefs, festivals/ ceremonies and worldview. It was an intense time of learning but I am excited to finally put what I have learned into action. I have also just been adjusting to life here. It’s a little like urban camping. We don’t always have electricity, or running hot water and you never drink water from the tap here, easy everyday things involve a little more foresight and strategic planning than they do back home (count your blessings!). Regardless I am loving it here and cannot wait to see what God does!
This Tuesday I will be traveling to a region northwest of Kathmandu with two YWAM teams for the duration of a week. This region is known for human trafficking, there is a whole village that has no young woman or children because they have all been sold into sexual slavery. Our goal is to do daily worship and prayer, evangelism through home visits where we will preach the gospel, as well as hosting a leadership conference for the Nepali youth. We will be working alongside long term missionaries in this region who are combating spiritual warfare, a harmful worldview and human trafficking through sharing the love of Christ, the gospel message and discipleship. Please pray for us during this time. In addition I will be making bimonthly visits to this region.
Lastly I have a special favor to ask I desperately need to buy either a motorbike or scooter for my ministry here. I need about $2500 which will include the vehicle, licensing and registration. Hello friends and family,             We have successfully completed the second month and the first module (there are four modules total)! The days are getting longer and longer here and I feel that summer will be here before we know it. This past month has been interesting as we all have finished settling in and are finding how we all fit as we do life with each other.  If any of you have ever lived in community then you may know some of the joys and, dare I say it, sorrows that this type of living can bring. June 2017 Update

Hello friends and family, Happy Summer! We have done it, we have made it to the end. This is the last week of GoMidwife Homer, AK 2017. We graduate the students on Thursday the 29 th and everyone will be heading their separate ways by July 1 st . It has been an interesting six months and God has grown me a lot though this past year. As far as staff duties it has been one of the easiest staff jobs I have had, but in regards to interpersonal relationships it has been the most difficult, but God is always faithful and he always brings life and healing if we allow him. I have grown to love Homer, AK and have been involved in an amazing church here. It will be so difficult to leave this place, but I am excited for the future and what God has in store for me next. Two years later or April Update

Hello friends and family,              *Ok warning. Please bear with me on this one. I’ve already wrote and rewrote this letter three times. It’s hard when you have so much to say to condense it to what you are about to read. April 25, 2015. Two years ago. Man I cannot believe it’s been two years already. I was in Kathmandu, Nepal in a hotel garden when the 7.8 earthquake hit. It happened on a Saturday which was my day off. I had plans to go to this older part of town where the houses are hundreds if not thousands of years old to explore and take photos. God had other plans however. Beauty for Ashes, the company I was volunteering with at the time, had set up a booth at a local celebration for the Dutch expats.
