March Update

Dear friends and family,

March has been pretty busy but also a month where it seems like my life is starting to normalize. At the beginning of the month I attended an International Women’s Day 5k. Almost all our women came and we had such a fun time together and this allowed me some time to get to know the women outside of work. Another big thing this month is that Beauty for Ashes (BFA) has moved into a new and bigger office building. We are still working on settling in and getting everything set up.
I feel as though I should take some time here to remind you all what BFA is exactly. So BFA is a business that employs women in Nepal. The original idea was to hire women who in the past had been sexually exploited and needed a job after they had been through counseling and aftercare. In Nepal there is a stigma against these women and many of them often fall right back into the sex trade. Today BFA still aims to employ these women but we haven’t stopped there, they also hire women at risk or who are in vulnerable situations with the idea to prevent them from entering into bad situations. BFA often hires women with limited skills and trains them up in the skills needed for the job, for example we make high quality jewelry and crafts made from upcycled saris. If a women is hired and has no sewing skills than we teach her. Not only does BFA hire women but we also have loan plans, provide a healthcare fund, child sponsorship for schooling and Christian discipleship. This is BFA in a nut shell.
I have been asked “what does a typical day look like for you”? Well Monday through Friday I go into work at BFA from 9am to 5pm. Around 9:30am we have devotions and prayer time that everyone attends every day (I have had the privilege to lead some of these) . Many of the women are believers but some are nominal Hindus. This is just one opportunity for us to present Christ to them and provide deeper Bible knowledge for those who are Christians. The rest of the workday is filled with whatever needs to be done that day. Sometimes this means organizing the showroom, our helping customers. Sometimes I count money and receipts. On slow days I will sit with the ladies while they work and get to know them. The jewelry making ladies are determined to teach me Nepali and I to teach them more English, it is an agreeable arrangement on both sides. In the afternoons I attend some bible studies or rest for the upcoming day. Weekends are for taking a proper Sabbath, church, meeting with friends or ministry.
Lastly I am pleased to share I have enough money to buy a scooter!! Yay! I hope to purchase one in late April early May. I first have to open a bank account here among other things.
***Prayer requests: The beginning of April has seen many trips to the bathroom. I am not sure what I have but I have been very ill with something that takes me out one day and the next I am fine. Please pray for complete healing and continued health.
I also seem to have injured my tail bone which makes riding a motorbike uncomfortable.
Lastly I will be going to India the beginning of May on a research trip so pray for that trip!

I just want to say a huge thanks to all my supporters! You guys are amazing and I am so blessed to have you in my life!
Blessings,
Kylee Nicholas
