April Update

Dear friends and family,
Wow, what a month. At first I wasn’t sure what I was going to write in this update, it has taken me some time to even find time to write this to you all.  You see April has been a rough month for me even before the earthquake hit. For almost the whole month something has been wrong with me physically. I bruised my tailbone which made sitting, riding the bike and sometimes sleeping uncomfortable. Than I had the flu and then a cold on and off for the whole first three weeks of this month. It was rough, and then to top it all off the 7.9 earthquake hit at 11:45am on Saturday April 25th. Normally on a Saturday I sleep in, maybe go to a coffee shop or walk around the city, thankfully I was at a garden in a nice open location selling Beauty For Ashes products with some friends when the earthquake hit. It truly is a miracle that I and almost everyone I know was unharmed and safe.
I could go on and on about how parts of the city were destroyed and talk about the death toll rising each day, I could elaborate what that first week was like with lack of sleep due to aftershocks or how you could sense everyone’s fear in the air, but I won’t. Instead I want to focus on the amazing things God has done in this time of chaos. In Nepal Saturday is their Sunday. Most of the women who work for us were at church when the earthquake hit and as a result not in their homes where they could have been seriously injured. We have heard story after story of how God intervened and helped people reach safety. For example one girl was in church and ran outside with the rest of her church when it happened. As soon as she got outside God told her to turn around and get back inside, as soon as she got inside a heavy flower pot fell right where she had been standing, it could have killed her. Another one of our ladies was in church and started to pray when the earthquake hit. Panic was overtaking the congregation and people were falling over each other trying to get out, even the pastor tried to flee but when he saw her praying he stopped running and joined her in prayer and helped to calm the church and prevented further damage.
Another ministry here ministers to street kids. They feed and provide basic first aid to those living on the streets. Normally they only meet twice a week but they decided to open their doors everyday for a week after the earthquake hit. They have given reports that people have given their life to Christ and that others have received supernatural physical healing from God. Others reported seeing angels coming from heaven down to earth and were holding up buildings and walls while the earthquake hit. There have been countless praise reports of tiny miracles of Gods goodness to his children. In a time with so much fear and death we must remember to look for God’s goodness and worship him all the more.
For me personally this has been a time of reflection. It has made me realize that you really should not put off things for tomorrow because tomorrow may never come, the frailty and uncertainty of life is a very real thing. Material things don’t seem as important when you take away basic needs like food, water, shelter and family. My friends I encourage you to examine your life and if anything in it is found wanting I implore you to fix it, don’t leave it for tomorrow, for tomorrow may not come.

Prayer Requests:
1.      Currently our house does not have access to water, our plumbing was damaged in the earthquake, please pray all issues get resolved quickly and that things are no more complicated than they already are.
2.      Pray for continued health and safety.
3.      On Saturday I head to the far west of Nepal for a week. This area is unreached. I and another sister will be speaking on spiritual warfare. Pray that God gives us the words to speak and that all will go well.
4.      Pray for the women of BFA, some of them have lost their homes and will need to find places very soon to live.
Blessings,
Kylee Nicholas
