Midwifery?

Hello dear friends and family,

            Many of you have been wondering what I have been up to since coming back from Nepal almost a year ago. Well the short answer is I’ve been living and working in Alaska just trying to recover from all that happened during my time in Nepal. I’ve also been spending this time in prayer and seeking God for what’s next, I’m thankful for the job I was able to have while here however it’s not my calling and I knew it would only be for a time. Over the winter I applied to go back to school, this time to get certified in order to teach English as a second language. I applied to a program in WA state and got in and was all set to go to school this fall (Sept. 2016), however God graciously interrupted my plans.

            A couple months ago I was just sitting in my living room (I cannot recall what exactly I was doing), when I heard God say “What about midwifery?”, I responded “what? Are you sure?” and immediately started doing my research on how to become a midwife. My friend told me about a program that Youth With A Mission (YWAM) has called Go Midwife, they normally operate in Kona, Hawaii, but as luck would have it (or rather the perfect timing of God) they are holding a six month training in Homer, Alaska for the first time! I applied for the school and got in! I will be heading to Homer on June 3, 2016 and will be there until November 2016. After that I do a 12 to 24 month long apprenticeship either domestically or internationally where I will get some very hands on training and experience. Than I can qualify to take the exam that will certify me to be a legitimate entry level midwife. My plan is to use midwifery to help women all over the world who are being killed by very preventable issues related to pregnancy and the process of birth. More importantly though I will have more opportunities to share the gospel with these women and their families.

Feb. 2017 update

Hello friends and family,             We have successfully completed the second month and the first module (there are four modules total)! The days are getting longer and longer here and I feel that summer will be here before we know it. This past month has been interesting as we all have finished settling in and are finding how we all fit as we do life with each other.  If any of you have ever lived in community then you may know some of the joys and, dare I say it, sorrows that this type of living can bring. June 2017 Update

Hello friends and family, Happy Summer! We have done it, we have made it to the end. This is the last week of GoMidwife Homer, AK 2017. We graduate the students on Thursday the 29 th and everyone will be heading their separate ways by July 1 st . It has been an interesting six months and God has grown me a lot though this past year. As far as staff duties it has been one of the easiest staff jobs I have had, but in regards to interpersonal relationships it has been the most difficult, but God is always faithful and he always brings life and healing if we allow him. I have grown to love Homer, AK and have been involved in an amazing church here. It will be so difficult to leave this place, but I am excited for the future and what God has in store for me next. So, what is next for Kylee? Well I am planning on leaving Homer on July 2 and moving back to Eagle River. Two years later or April Update

Hello friends and family,              *Ok warning. Please bear with me on this one. I’ve already wrote and rewrote this letter three times. It’s hard when you have so much to say to condense it to what you are about to read. April 25, 2015. Two years ago. Man I cannot believe it’s been two years already. I was in Kathmandu, Nepal in a hotel garden when the 7.8 earthquake hit. It happened on a Saturday which was my day off. I had plans to go to this older part of town where the houses are hundreds if not thousands of years old to explore and take photos. God had other plans however. Beauty for Ashes, the company I was volunteering with at the time, had set up a booth at a local celebration for the Dutch expats.
