October Update!

Hello dear friends and family,
            So I have some interesting news and I need the help of all my prayer warriors. The world of midwifery is very political, and the rules of how one becomes a midwife and how midwifery schools run is constantly changing on a national and state level. Alaska was pretty open to midwifery until June 1, 2016 when they changed some rules and regulations. Our school has come under fire due to a person in the midwifery community spreading some misunderstanding about us. As a result none of the students nor I can acquire an apprenticeship in Alaska. Our program is working on getting a certification and if we are granted it then we will receive state approval and thus can get apprenticeships in the state of Alaska.
            I have five weeks left of this program. On November 19 I will be driving back to the Anchorage area. As we come to a close I am praying more and more as to what God wants me to do with this training. Shall I continue on and become a fully certified midwife? Or should I work towards becoming a doula, midwife assistant or childbirth educator? Whatever I pursue or don’t pursue I know that God will guide me and it will out work out for His good. I want to thank those of who have prayed for me in this time and supported me with your kind words. Lastly I have an urgent request I need $450 by October 31st! Feb. 2017 update

Hello friends and family,             We have successfully completed the second month and the first module (there are four modules total)! The days are getting longer and longer here and I feel that summer will be here before we know it. This past month has been interesting as we all have finished settling in and are finding how we all fit as we do life with each other.  If any of you have ever lived in community then you may know some of the joys and, dare I say it, sorrows that this type of living can bring. June 2017 Update

Hello friends and family, Happy Summer! We have done it, we have made it to the end. This is the last week of GoMidwife Homer, AK 2017. We graduate the students on Thursday the 29 th and everyone will be heading their separate ways by July 1 st . It has been an interesting six months and God has grown me a lot though this past year. As far as staff duties it has been one of the easiest staff jobs I have had, but in regards to interpersonal relationships it has been the most difficult, but God is always faithful and he always brings life and healing if we allow him. I have grown to love Homer, AK and have been involved in an amazing church here. It will be so difficult to leave this place, but I am excited for the future and what God has in store for me next. So, what is next for Kylee? Well I am planning on leaving Homer on July 2 and moving back to Eagle River. Two years later or April Update

Hello friends and family,              *Ok warning. Please bear with me on this one. I’ve already wrote and rewrote this letter three times. It’s hard when you have so much to say to condense it to what you are about to read. April 25, 2015. Two years ago. Man I cannot believe it’s been two years already. I was in Kathmandu, Nepal in a hotel garden when the 7.8 earthquake hit. It happened on a Saturday which was my day off. I had plans to go to this older part of town where the houses are hundreds if not thousands of years old to explore and take photos. God had other plans however. Beauty for Ashes, the company I was volunteering with at the time, had set up a booth at a local celebration for the Dutch expats. I was not required to help since it was my day off but I felt strongly that I was to give up my day off and help. Thank God literally, for the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
