Jan. Update 2017
Hello dear friends and family,
The
first month is complete only five more to go! So far the students have a full
three weeks under their belts and are settling in well. We have nine students,
from all over America and one local. They range in age from 20’s to 50’s. As
their staff it is very exciting to see them be exposed to new knowledge, not
only in midwifery but in global issues affecting women, children and families all
over the world. They are currently learning how to use midwifery as a form of
community development here in the USA as well as overseas. I’m excited to see
how the rest of the program will go, and to help them along in this journey.
I
myself have been settling back into my community and church family here. It has
been a good time of reconnecting with old friends and making new connections.
Our school leader had surgery right before the school so two other staff and I
had to hold down the fort for the first week of class while she recovered. One
of my jobs as staff is to lead a time of intercession every other week. I love
leading groups of people in prayer on behalf of others all over the world, it
is a way to be part of the global church and to actively help those we may
never meet.
Some
of you have been asking when I will do my internship in midwifery. The answer
is I am not sure. I’m not sure if I will ever continue on in midwifery. All I
know is that about ten months ago God led me to this YWAM base in Homer, AK to
go through the missionary midwifery training school. This month I’ve been
thinking on this a lot. Was I crazy to quit a good job to get midwifery
training in a fishing town in AK? I mean midwifery? (Those who know me well
know I am pretty grossed out by medical stuff!)
All I know is that when
God calls you to something you better listen even if it does sound insane, even
if it might be counter cultural or seem financially unstable. In my experience
God will provide and help equip you to make it through what he has called you
to do. All he requires is that you have faith in his goodness and a willing
heart. God always has better plans for me then I do for myself. I cannot wait
to see what the future holds. I hope this may encourage some of you.
I still need about $6,000
for my time here. Info is below on how to give. For my prayer warriors out
there; please pray for health as colds have been going around. The base here is
involved with AK one day and the goal is to evangelize to the community, please
pray for open hearts and minds. Thank you guys so much your partnership and
prayers mean way more to me then you could know. Feel free to contact me with
any questions or if you just want to chat!
Be Blessed,
Kylee Nicholas
